Catch Fish

The boys tried catching fish for the first time after hearing from my friend that this particular pond on the NE side of Singapore has a lot of "longkang" fishes.

I specially bought 2 nets a day before the trip for the boys.

It was a hot afternoon.... when we reached there, I realized that I've forgotten to bring along food for the fishes *alamak* ;p

Nevertheless, we still managed to catch abt 50 little fishes. The biggest of the shoal of fishes was caught by Zac *applause*

We intend to go there again & this time with food so that we can catch the bigger ones!! ;p


We released the fishes back to the pond before we leave ... ...

Hermit Crab

My sister bought 2 Hermit Crabs recently. It cost S$75 including the tank. I was amazed by it!!

The Hermit Crab is a type of crab that doesn't have a very hard shell. It uses other animals' old shells for protection; they especially like old whelk shells. As the hermit crab grows in size, it must find a larger shell. It is their habit of living in a second hand shell that gave rise to the popular name "Hermit Crab".
There are about 500 different species of hermit crabs around the world. Most hermit crab species live on the ocean floor, but many live on land. Female terrestrial (land based) hermit crabs must return to the sea to breed.

I happened to witness how the crab molt (shed its skin). See bottom left hand corner of pic . That was the discarded skin & limb from the crab !!

Interesting pet to have at home if you're not afraid of sharp creepy crawlers.... hahaha :D

A better home...

Still remember the turtle that landed at our doorstep. We've gotten him a new home. Thanks to my friend, Molly for sponsering the tank. I took some stones from my mum's home & placed them inside the tank so that the turtle can have some fun inside. I bought turtle food from the fish shop for it too cos it doesn't like to eat cabbage.

A dog that loves the water ...

Its really a rare opportunity to catch a dog running into the water..
I just witness one recently at East Coast Park on a hot afternoon.



This is the dog's owner. An eurasian couple and their obedient dog lazing under the benches after a cool bath...


The man even ask the dog over so that Amos could have a closer look at it. See, the dog is really man's best friend.... really very obedient :)

A new member in my family ...

Before you stand jumping to conclusion from the title ... ...





The new member is none other than this turtle, it is rather huge with long nails on its front paws. How on earth could I have possible get such a mighty one when small turtle are relatively cuter and easier to maintain.

Its all fated... whether you believe it or not!! This turtle actually appear at my corridor on Wednesday afternoon when my neighbour knocked on my door if I have a turtle that escaped from my house.... LOL :)

Seeing the lonesome creature moving slowly along the dirty corridor looking so helpless, aparently lost. I get my maid to bring it in, get it washed & gave it some cabbages :)

When the 2 boys were back from school, they were delighted to see it.. Amos wanted to catch the turtle. Zac kept shouting to me that the turtle attempted to reach over the pail to crawl out. They were just too ecstatic cos this being the first time we had a pet in the house.


I have to get a proper house for the turtle & create a living environment for it.
