Amos finally on the dentist chair

I tried my luck to bring Amos to the dentist once again cos he failed to co-operate during the earlier visit. Zac was co-operative on that visit though. You can read about it here. I am careful to schedule his time slot in the morning this time so that he will be alert & less cranky.
We arrived on time & Amos waited impatiently for his turn and making noises outside. He told me he was afraid and did not want to go in. He is still young and cannot comprehend the importance of having clean oral hygiene, so explanation doesn't work on him... ... However, I have my own ways to dealt with my little fella though... ... ;p

It sure works !!

A few mins later... my little mischievous became calm and walked bravely into the treatment room. He sat on the familiar little lime green ikea chair (we have that at home too) waiting for Zac to complete his restoration & polishing :) The was Zac's 3rd visit to the dentist but his first to The Dental Inn.

Finally, its Amos turn !! He climbed up the dentist chair & sat down stiffly (see pic) on it. I bet he must be really nervous!! *hug*

He started to feel more relax after chatting with the Doctor as you can see from his body language. Both his hands are behind his head after a while !! haha :D

Doctor explained that he has slight cavity showing on his upper right molar. I requested the Doctor to clear up the plague on his upper teeth for this visit. Amos felt uncomfortable with the polishing bits and so he was asked to gaggle. He enjoyed it & was fascinated with the little glass basin. Doctor taught him to press the button to re-fill his cup. This little involvement has made him really enjoyed his first dental visit ... ...

With this first visit, I believe the subsequent ones will be easier to manage cos he would have been familiar with the place & the procedure. Good Job, Amos !! :):)

A BIG Thank You to :

Dr Winston How for his patience in attending to my boys & the complimentary treatment. :):)

Amos FIRST dental check up !!

We passed by a free dental check up roadshow by the Health Promotion Board last week.

Zac has no problem visiting the dentist so long as we bring him to those oral surgeons that are patient & gentle to children.
I've got a bit of problem getting Amos to visit the dentist regularly.
However, I was totally surprised that Amos actually open his glorious 'smile' to the lady oral surgeon at the roadshow. As you can see from the photo. Amos is really nervous while waiting for his turn. Initially, I have to carry him while he is being checked. Later, I slowly put him down on the chair alone. YAY !! Amos made it for his first dental check up.
At the moment, not much issue for him except that I have to take note to brush his molar teeth properly.

These are the HAPPY BRUSHES recommended by the Heath Promotion Board. The 3 way brushing saves time especially when brushing little tots teeth. I find it really useful so bought home a dozen. It costs S$2.50 each & free 2 with every 10 pieces)

I immediately used it on the boys that night. I can see that the boys teeth are more thoroughly cleaned using it. Such a good deal !! :):)

This is a miracle... ...FIRST Commentator is Marzie

The DENTIST Chair

Zac complained of pain quite some times back while I brush his teeth, I thought it was time to bring him to the dentist.
I sourced around for dentist that attend to young children & finally located a really gentle & patient doctor through a friend. A few weeks before going to the dentist. I tried to explain to Zac why he need to go to the dentist & told him that the dentist is actually a "FUN" place. The doctor will teach him the correct method to brush his teeth. He will lie down on the chair, relax & just open his mouth wide enough for the doctor to check. After that, he can go home with a really nice "smile" & no more pain subsequently when I brush his teeth for him :)

Zac actually look forward to seeing the doctor after constant days of hearing from me how cool a place the dentist clinic is. Some more I promised to bring him to catch fishes after that !! LOL :)
The appointment was 3 -5 pm for both of my boys. However, we waited till 4.30pm before Zac was called to enter. The boys were feeling restless actually. I understand from the nurses that the schedule for the day were all screwed up.... sigh !! :(
Zac has a total of about 10 cavities. Since this is his first visit, the doctor explained the tools to him one by one at least the child will get prepared of what will be "entering" his mouth later on. I though that was a really good idea, I cannot help thinking how patient this doctor is :):):)

The dentist filled up 3 really BIG cavities on his incisors that were more severe. I squatted down by Zac's side, holding on to his hands & patting him now & then to give him encouragement & support. I could tell that he was enduring the pain from his constant jerks & leg moments. You can see from the pic that he was actually rather nervous. He tried to control his emotions throughout the 1/2 hour. He struggle a bit to get out of the chair but he DID NOT cry at all. Such a BRAVE BOY !! I thought he did pretty well since this was his FRIST visit!! Even an adult would be restless & sore mouth from constant opening :)

Zac still has to go for subsequent visit to get the other cavities filled up as well. He has to get the cavities on his molars nicely cleared up as the doctor mentioned that those will have to last him till he is 12 years old. I think with his first experience at the dentist, the subsequent visit will hopefully be more comfortable to him :):)

Amos was just too restless by then & refused to open his mouth. There is no way for the doctor to check on him. Anyway, I don't see much problem on Amos at the moment except for some plague on his incisors & canine which definitely need the doctor's assistance to clear it off with the appropriate tools. I have arranged for the doctor to see my boys immediately after his lunch for the next visit. In that way, the boys do not have to wait so long & could co-operate better :):)

I highly recommend this doctor :
