Amos FIRST dental check up !!

We passed by a free dental check up roadshow by the Health Promotion Board last week.

Zac has no problem visiting the dentist so long as we bring him to those oral surgeons that are patient & gentle to children.
I've got a bit of problem getting Amos to visit the dentist regularly.
However, I was totally surprised that Amos actually open his glorious 'smile' to the lady oral surgeon at the roadshow. As you can see from the photo. Amos is really nervous while waiting for his turn. Initially, I have to carry him while he is being checked. Later, I slowly put him down on the chair alone. YAY !! Amos made it for his first dental check up.
At the moment, not much issue for him except that I have to take note to brush his molar teeth properly.

These are the HAPPY BRUSHES recommended by the Heath Promotion Board. The 3 way brushing saves time especially when brushing little tots teeth. I find it really useful so bought home a dozen. It costs S$2.50 each & free 2 with every 10 pieces)

I immediately used it on the boys that night. I can see that the boys teeth are more thoroughly cleaned using it. Such a good deal !! :):)

The growing beans... ...

I planted some green bean seeds recently to show the boys how the plant emerged from a seed.

Green bean seeds at DAY 1

DAY 2, a few seeds with buds growing out

DAY 7, the stem started to appear

DAY 8, leaves are appearing...

The boys are puzzled how fast the plants can grow from just seeds a week ago....
Zac saw me watering the plant... I told him the plant need water & sunlight for growth, just like he needs water & food everyday.
He has gladly taken over the task to do the watering and giving them sunlight everyday. haha :D

An indoor playground

The boys just love to play the slide at the playground, however, now that both are attending classes they are spending lesser time at the outdoor. I created an indoor slide recently using the newly purchased mattress for Zac. I tilted it at an angle against my king size bed. Viola !! An indoor slide.... how entertaining for the boys... :)

Their REWARDS book

The 2 boys are sometimes driving me crazy. I can almost hear them fighting over practically everything. Most of the time, Zac has to give in to Amos. The latter is the naughtier one, he will want whatever Zac is using or playing :(

I thought of starting a reward book for them, they will be awarded a star (sticker) whenever they show signs of development, lend a helping hand or finishes their meal etc ...
Likewise, if they show signs of misbehave, I will remove the star that they have owned before.

They are eager to receive more stars & tend to behave better after my implementation. I told them whoever receives more star will get a present from me every month.

I decorated the cover page of the reward book to let them have a personal touch that it is their record book of progress. Zac chose the mickey stickers while Amos chose the Pooh bear & friends. You must be thinking how come there's a mini mouse at the bottom of Zac's page... cos she is looking at the charming Zac mah..... wahahahaha.....*blush*

I hope it can really work... so far... each of them has got 3 stars each... ;)

Easy Kitchen Tricks

Read this in a magazine, thought it will be really useful.
Share with you...

1) Having trouble shaving foods with a knife? Use a vegetable peeler to shave parmesan cheese and chocolate. Its much faster.
2) Mix salad dressing in a screw top jar- combine all the ingredients and shake the closed jar. The unused portion can be stored in the jar.
3) Instead of trying to skim fat or oil off gravy with a ladle, just pour the gravy into a plastic bag. Let the fat rise to the top, then snip off a small corner & drain out the broth, leaving the fat in the bag.
4) Marinate meat or dried fruit in a zip lock bag. Leave it in the fridge, & remember to turn the bag occasionally to coat the content.
5) Want to seed a tomato? Use a melon baller instead of a knife.
6) Having to chill, roll & line a pie pan with a biscuit crumb crust can be time consuming. Instead, roughly spread the mixture in the pan & use a same sized pan to press the crust into place.
7) Freeze leftover stock in disposable muffin pans. Small amounts cans be thawed & used when needed.
8) When measuring sticky liquids like syrup, honey or peanut butter, spray the measuring cup or spoon with cooking spray, it helps the ingredient slide out easily
9) An egg slicer does more than slice eggs – use it to slice mushrooms, strawberries & other soft fruits.
10) Peel young ginger by scraping off the thin skin with a spoon.
